Sania Mirza, the renowned Indian tennis star, has expressed her profound admiration for Nadia Jamil, a Pakistani actor and child rights advocate, whom she finds exceptionally inspiring.
Sania conveyed her deep respect and appreciation for Nadia in a message shared on X, formerly known as Twitter. She commended Nadia for her extensive discussion on overcoming childhood trauma, including her experiences as a survivor of child sexual abuse (CSA).
Through her message, the Indian sports icon conveyed her keen interest in following Nadia’s activities and advocacy work. In response to Nadia’s heartfelt account of her journey toward healing, Sania expressed, “You are genuinely inspiring. I have been closely following your work and everything you do. It’s truly amazing.”
In her posts on X, Nadia described her long and challenging path to healing, which involved enduring excruciating pain, hiding from difficult situations and people, and struggling with deep unhappiness. She explained how she eventually found the tools to nurture herself and gain self-respect, self-protection, and self-love.
She emphasized her responsibility for taking care of the inner child within her and her commitment to facilitating the healing of other children who have experienced similar trauma.
Nadia, as a survivor of sexual abuse, emphasized the profound importance of acknowledging and validating the feelings experienced by individuals as they come to terms with their traumatic pasts. She emphasized that every child, including the child within adults, holds immense significance and that healing is indeed possible.
Nadia encouraged the acceptance of fear and the gradual movement towards overcoming it, at one’s own pace. She advocated for embracing sadness, acknowledging fears, and allowing oneself to feel overwhelmed while also recognizing the importance of simply pausing and taking a breath.
Nadia expressed her gratitude for finding her supportive and empowering communities, referring to them as “beautiful tribes.” She particularly thanked Emma-Jane Taylor, the founder of the #notmyshame campaign against CSA, and recognized the tribe of individuals who bravely reject the shame associated with their experiences. She reiterated her belief that the shame solely belongs to the perpetrators of sexual abuse, not the survivors.
Nadia concluded by sharing her personal transformation from being a “scared child” to becoming a “strong adult” and called on people not to shame survivors but rather to hold abusers accountable.
She invited Pakistan and the global community to unite in declaring that the shame belongs solely to the rapists and to actively contribute to creating a world where every survivor of CSA can thrive.
