Pakistan Clinches Thrilling Victory Over India in Men’s Hockey 5s Asia Cup 2023

Pakistan defeated archrival India 5-4 in an electrifying match during the Men's Hockey 5s Asia Cup 2023 in Salalah, Oman.

This triumph extends Pakistan’s unblemished record in the tournament and solidifies their position at the top of the table with three consecutive victories, 46 goals scored, and nine points. Arshad Liaquat scored two crucial goals to lead Pakistan to victory in the enthralling match, which featured exceptional performances from both sides. A goal from Abdul Rehman, Zakriya Hayat, and Rana Abdul Waheed secured Pakistan’s victory in a nail-biting match.

The President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) proclaimed a reward of $100 for each participant in recognition of their exceptional efforts and remarkable accomplishments in the tournament.

Earlier on the same day, Pakistan demonstrated their superiority with a 15-6 victory over Bangladesh. Pakistan’s forthcoming tournament matches will be against Oman at 3 pm and Malaysia at 8 pm. In the next phase of the competition, the poorest two teams from the Elite pool will face the best two teams from the Challenger pool. The winning teams will compete against the third and fourth-placed teams from the Elite pool in the second phase of crossover matches.

The top two performers from the Elite pool will then advance to the semi-finals to compete for a place in the finals. The losers of the semi-finals will compete for the bronze medal, whereas the victors, along with the two finalists, will qualify for the inaugural FIH Hockey5s World Cup, which will be contested in Oman in 2024.
