Oscar-winning actor Susan Sarandon has been dropped by her agency after ‘antisemitic’ comments at pro-Palestine rally on November 17.
“There are a lot of people that are afraid, that are afraid of being Jewish at this time, and are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country, so often subjected to violence,” she said at the rally, urging protesters to have conversations with Jewish Americans who feel unsafe.
She also said that you don’t have to be Palestinian to stand with the Palestinian people.
A spokesperson for UTA confirmed the news to Deadline. Sarandon is also being criticised for reposting a pro-Palestinian post from Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters on X (formerly Twitter). Waters, who has long been pro-Palestine, has been criticised for ‘antisemitic remarks’ as well.
The news comes on the heels of Mexican actor Melissa Barrera being fired from the Scream franchise over her support of Palestine. There were earlier reports of model Bella Hadid also losing work opportunities because of her staunch support of Palestine.
The death toll in Gaza has crossed 14,000, with thousands more injured in Israeli attacks. Protests are being held around the world as people call for an end to the violence. Most recently, Israel and Hamas agreed to a four-day truce in which some hostages will be exchanged for prisoners in Israeli jails. More desperately needed aid will be allowed into Gaza during this time.
