BEIJING:
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday where both leaders renewed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields, with a particular focus on trade and defence.
During the meeting, which was held on the sidelines of Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, both dignitaries emphasised the importance of strengthening collaboration across diverse sectors and also delved into discussions regarding regional peace and security.
President Putin warmly received PM Kakar before their comprehensive meeting, encompassing topics of bilateral, regional, and international significance.

In his opening statement, PM Kakar highlighted the alignment of interests between Pakistan and Russia when it comes to addressing the issue of terrorism.

He called for cooperation and a unified approach among Afghanistan’s neighbouring countries, stressing the significance of regional cooperation.

Kakar urged neighbouring nations to take the initiative in the realms of intelligence, defence, and counter-terrorism.
The premier said that Pakistan was an energy-deficient country of 240 million population. He shared that the country’s energy minister had recently participated in an Energy Week event in Russia, where fruitful discussions with the Russian team took place. The Russian team presented concrete proposals for expanding energy cooperation between the two countries, he added.

Reflecting on his past visit to Russia as a Senator, Kakar expressed his admiration for Russian architecture, particularly the representation of Christianity and churches. He also highlighted the cultural and ethical values shared by both nations, noting their relative obscurity outside the region.

In his remarks, the Russian president said that Pakistan and Russia celebrated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.
He underscored the vast potential for collaboration between the two countries and expressed eagerness to exchange ideas and discuss strategies for strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors.
President Putin mentioned the growth in trade relations, highlighting that Russia had supplied approximately one million tonnes of cereals to Pakistan this year.
