IIL adds 1MW solar project
As per a press release, International Industries Limited (IIL), Pakistan’s largest manufacturer and exporter of steel and polymer pipes, announces another major stride in its journey towards sustainability, self-sufficiency, and environmental responsibility.
Following the inauguration of its first 1MW solar project at its Karachi factory, IIL recently hosted a commissioning ceremony for an equivalent 1MW solar project at its Sheikhupura production facility. This significant initiative underlines the company’s commitment to harnessing renewable energy sources and reducing its carbon footprint.
“These solar projects are a testament to our dedication to sustainability and responsible environmental stewardship,” said Sohail R. Bhojani, CEO of International Industries Limited. “By embracing solar energy, we are reducing our ecological impact and demonstrating our commitment to a cleaner and greener future for Pakistan and the global community.”
In addition to reducing its carbon footprint, IIL anticipates substantial cost savings over the operational lifespan of these solar projects. The company aims to mitigate rising energy costs and enhance its long-term business sustainability by reducing reliance on conventional energy sources.
Kenya Pakistan trade ties
Her Excellency, Amb M. Nyambura Kamau, the High Commissioner of Kenya to Pakistan, undertook an official visit to the office of Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, the Chief Executive Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), last week, as per a press release. Accompanying High Commissioner Kamau were H.E. Muhammad Hanif Janoo, the Honorary Consul General of Kenya to Pakistan, and Bonface N. Njuguna, Kenya’s Commercial Attaché to Pakistan.
The principal focus of the meeting was to deliberate on various facets of bilateral trade between Kenya and Pakistan. High Commissioner Kamau expressed a strong interest in importing mangoes and kinnows from Pakistan, emphasising the considerable potential for collaboration in this sector. Furthermore, the discussions extended to tourism prospects in both Pakistan and Kenya. Both sides recognised the potential for promoting tourism and enhancing interaction between the two countries.
PTBA’s new leadership
The Pakistan Tax Bar Association announced the results of its annual general meeting, states a press release. A new executive committee was elected to lead the organisation for 2023-2025. Anwar Kashif Mumtaz was elected as president, and Rehan Siddique as general secretary. Syed Irfan Haider Shah was elected as the new joint secretary, Imran Ahmad Khan as the information secretary and Wasim Uddin Hashmi as treasurer. In addition to the above office bearers, the PTBA has elected several senior vice presidents from different regions.
The newly elected executive committee is committed to advancing the interests of tax practitioners, promoting tax education, and contributing to the development of tax policy in Pakistan.
