When you think about sunglasses in movies and on TV, a few pairs probably come to mind, right?

Wayfarers, Aviators… these sunglasses styles have a few things in common: they’re two signature styles from popular brand Ray-Ban, and both were worn in iconic ’80s movies by Tom Cruise.

But before Cruise ever stepped in front of a camera in a pair of Aviators in Top Gun, he helped repopularize the Wayfarer by wearing the dark-rimmed sunglasses in his breakout film, Risky Business.

According to a Fortune article from 1987, a product placement deal ensured Wayfarers (and other Ray-Ban styles) would appear on stars and in films beginning in 1982. In 1983, following the release of Risky Business, 360,000 pairs were sold.

And now, 40 years later, Wayfarers are still one of the most popular sunglasses styles out there. Ray-Ban has even launched new variations of the classic frame, tying into current trends in eyewear.

Right now, you can take 36% off three different pairs of Wayfarers during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Though the original, classic style isn’t included, the styles are still recognizable and will make a great addition to any outfit.

Act fast if you want to save, though; the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ends this Sunday, August 6.

An update to the classic Wayfarer, this frame is thicker for a more modern, bold look.

This pair is closest to a classic Wayfarer with temple hardware and dark lenses, but the acetate frames are a translucent black instead of the typical glossy opaque black.

For the same shape with a different vibe, consider these New Wayfarer sunglasses with gray ombre lenses and clear frames.
