Islamabad court grants 2-day physical remand of Fawad Chaudhry

Judge of the Islamabad District Court Naveed Khan granted a 2-day physical remand of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday night. 

The judge announced the reserved decision related to the demand of eight days physical remand of Fawad Chaudhry after a delay of an hour.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, Islamabad police produced Fawad Chaudhry in the district court of Judge Naveed Khan with handcuffs on Wednesday night.

The court heard the arguments of the lawyers of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Fawad Chaudhry and reserved the decision about granting or not the physical remand of the PTI leader. 

Meanwhile, at the request of Fawad Chaudhry, the court granted permission to meet his family in police custody.

During the hearing, Fawad Chaudhry’s brother Faisal Chaudhry, PTI leaders Hammad Azhar, Murad Saeed, Saifullah Abaro, Ali Nawaz Awan, Malik Amir Dogar, and Kanwal Shuzab were also present in the court.

The ECP lawyer Saad Hasan told the court that the commission is a constitutional institute and Fawad Chaudhry defamed it by calling it a “Munshi” (a servant). 

On this, Fawad abruptly passed a comment that so it is proved now that it is like a “Munshi”. 

Anyhow, the ECP lawyer said that since the PTI adopted the regime change manifesto, the Commission is being targeted.

He argued that Fawad Chaudhry’s speech was not only to incite rebellion but also to endanger the lives of the ECP employees.

During the hearing, Fawad Chaudhry said in the court that there are about 1500 policemen outside, don’t do that sir as he is a law-obeying advocate of the Supreme Court (SC). 

On this occasion, PTI lawyers requested to remove the handcuffs of Fawad Chaudhry.

Fawad Chaudhry also appealed to the judge that he should be allowed to meet his family till the announcement of the reserved decision.

In response to it, Judge Naveed Khan said, in just five to ten minutes, he will pronounce the verdict.

Later, the Islamabad police handcuffed Fawad Chaudhry and transferred him to Bakshi Khana (lockup) and then to PIMS hospital where his medical tests were administrated by a senior doctors’ team. After check up, he was reproduced in the court of district judge who announced the reserved verdict in the presence of the accused person.

Earlier, Fawad Chaudhry was taken to the F/8 court under strict siege by Islamabad Police and Eagle Squad. Fawad Chaudhry’s face was veiled by a cloth to avoid showing his identity before the mob gathered outside the court.
