The renowned Palestinian poet and novelist Heba Abu Nada has passed away, the Palestinian Ministry of Culture announced in a heartbreaking statement. Heba Abu Nada, a literary talent with profound contributions to Palestinian literature, gained recognition for her remarkable debut novel, ‘Oxygen Is Not For The Dead,’ published in 2017. The novel’s exceptional literary merit earned her the prestigious second place at the Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity, highlighting her profound storytelling abilities and her capacity to connect with readers on a deep emotional level.
Born in Mecca in 1991, Heba pursued her educational journey in the field of science. She studied biochemistry at the Islamic University of Gaza, a testament to her intellectual prowess. Not stopping there, she went on to complete her Masters in Clinical Nutrition, displaying an unwavering commitment to academic excellence.
The news of Heba’s untimely demise was shared on social media by Palestinian-Swedish political scientist Abdalhadi Alija. In his post, he not only announced her tragic passing but also conveyed a powerful declaration made by Heba before her death: “If we die, know that we are content and steadfast, and convey on our behalf that we are people of truth.”
